Born in a small house on the edge of the endless desert of Oasis Springs, one of seven siblings, Rhett Blackjay knows what it's like to make do with little. A difficult childhood, scarred by poverty, made him the man he is today, strong willed, passionate and determined to make his mark on the world. With a nimble mind, a strong constitution, and an unending thirst for knowledge and a deep understanding of nature, Rhett is ready to take on any challenge that presents itself.

He seems destined for success. But those that know him well are skeptical. Along with the flaming red hue of his hair and the unusual coloring of his eyes, he inherited the volatile temper that was his brilliant father's undoing. Will Rhett be able to overcome his father's legacy or will his unruly temper turn against him?
