This is a simple texture replacement for the envcube texture which is used when certain reflecting objects are used outside on a lot.
I found a desert envcube texture in the game files, which seems to be unused. So I made a default repacement of the standard envcube to use this texture, so that most objects with reflective surfaces (but not mirrors) will reflect a desert terrain instead of a grassy terrain.
This will show on ALL neighbourhoods that you play, so please bear that in mind. It is best suited for those who play only desert towns, such as Strangetown.
To use, unzip to your Downloads folder. If the desert envcube doesn't show in your game, make the mod load last by adding a z to the beginning of the filename.
To remove the mod, delete the Simsample_Envcube_Desert.package file from your Downloads folder.

The Sims 2 uses cube mapping to create reflections on some objects. This is a method that projects the environment on a cube, to give the illusion of real time rendered reflections. More on cube mapping can be read on Wikipedia here.
There are several cube-mapped images stored in the game files; however most objects use the outdoordaytime-envcube_txtr. This includes vehicles, on which the cubemapped texture is particularly apparent. The standard texture for the outdoordaytime-envcube_txtr is a grassy plain with building and trees; this is great for lush terrrains, but looks a little out of place when playing desert environments.

This overrides the outdoordaytime-envcube_txtr resource.
If you would like to make your own custom envcube texture, you can use mine as a base and replace the texture in it. Please note that there are SIX textures to replace, one for each face of the cube.
This is an example of how a cubemap is formed:
It is tricky to make a good envcube, I managed to make a passable image showing brick townhouses for one of my neighbourhoods but it was not perfect. However, the surfaces it is projected onto are usually not flat, and so any imperfections should not be too noticeable.
