2/22: Updated with Major Fix! Please re-download.

To better represent the harsh realities of historical life, I have created two "Reward" Traits that add penalties rather than benefits. I myself deal with chronic fatigue and chronic pain (thanks, autoimmune disease), and the mods that used to represent these conditions haven't been updated in years. Since I am primarily a historical player, I have flavored the language accordingly. These Traits are available for Children—Elders.

LINGERING MALAISE TRAIT: KEY FEATURES

• The Energy Motive of Sims with Lingering Malaise decays at 1.8x the speed of healthy Sims. This is very punishing! You will almost certainly need to take a nap during the day. Energized moodlets fade more rapidly as well.
• Sims suffering from Malaise are far less likely to autonomously engage in physical activities like dancing, working out, raking leaves, shoveling snow, climbing rocks, juggling the soccer ball, skating, and so forth.
• Buying the Lingering Malaise Reward Trait adds two social interactions to the game: affected Sims can Complain about Fatigue (Friendly→Complaints), while their friends/family can Give Invigorating Tea (Friendly→Affection). The latter interaction creates a cup of energizing Oolong in the afflicted Sim's inventory and boosts Empathy in Children and Teens. (If you want your kids to be able to drink tea, you'll need this mod).
• If you click on your Sim while they are tired or exhausted, there will be an option to Push Past Limits; it will partially refill their Energy Motive, but a couple of hours later, they will crash, gaining a long-lasting Uncomfortable +8 moodlet. If you have Get to Work installed, they will also contract a random mild illness. This action can only be taken once per day, and Children cannot do it at all.
• Sims with the Trait will occasionally do fatigue-related Idle Animations.

OLD INJURY TRAIT: KEY FEATURES

• Sims with the Old Injury Trait learn Physical Skills at 0.5x the speed of other Sims. They have an Effective Skill Modifier of -1 for certain skills, meaning they can never truly reach a score of 10. They will always operate as though they are one Skill level below their top score. In other words, if they have a 10 in Fitness, they actually have a 9.
• Sims suffering from an Old Injury are far less likely to autonomously engage in physical activities like dancing, working out, raking leaves, shoveling snow, climbing rocks, juggling the soccer ball, skating, and so forth.
• Buying the Old Injury Reward Trait adds three social interactions to the game: affected Sims can Complain about Pain (Friendly→Complaints) and Explain Injury Origin (Friendly→Stories), while friends/family can Offer Soothing Touch (Friendly→Affection). The latter interaction yields VFX and a moodlet, as well as an Empathy boost for Children and Teens.
• The baseline mood for afflicted Sims is Uncomfortable — in the absence of other moodlets (a rare occurrence, I'll admit), they will default to Uncomfortable instead of Fine. Regardless of mood, they will occasionally grimace and shake their arm in pain.

WHAT IF I WANT MY SIM TO RECOVER?

Go to PhoneTravelConsult A Healer. Your Sim will be whisked away to meet with a doctor/shaman/apothecary/whatever fits your setting. The visit costs §1000 and has a 66% chance of resulting in disappointment. There's a 33% chance that your Sim will receive an "On the Mend" moodlet; when that moodlet expires 12 hours later, your Sim will lose the Lingering Malaise or Old Injury Trait. Think of it as a countdown to a cure.

COMPATIBILITY & REQUIREMENTS

This mod is basegame compatible, but it requires the XML INJECTOR. It is unlikely to conflict with other mods since it doesn't override any existing tuning. I'll consider making a second version that uses modern parlance if people request it.

P.S. What is the XML Injector, & why do modders use it? A succinct explanation can be found here.
