The Yesteryear is a comfortable modern residence which harks back to a bygone era of master builders. The house is set towards the rear of the lot, and is split into no less than four levels. The cheery stucco exterior reflects the gold and white colouring within, set off with occasional blues.

Entry is at ground level, beneath the deep porch roof. A small foyer area welcomes visitors before inviting them up into the living areas, visible through the balustrade.

On the main level, kitchen, dining and lounge are combined in a free-flowing design. Big windows overlook the garden, and there is a door to the back yard.

An open staircase leads up to the bedrooms, with a spacious landing overlooking the main level. There are two roomy bedrooms here, and a full bathroom with private access from the master bed.

From the front entry, a private door leads to the back hall. From here, there is access either to the garage (with its own washroom and yard door), or downstairs to the basement. This space is currently open, but would readily convert to a third bedroom or hobby space. An ensuite would make this a delightfully private hideaway for a teenager.

Notes for players

The house has been playtested for a week. The sims seem reluctant to use the front door, mostly choosing to travel to the rear entrance or through the garage, but the front door DOES work. If it bothers you, try moving the mailbox further away from the driveway, that may alter the routing preferences.

I tested the lot in Seasons, expecting holes, but in fact, no snow got in and the sims were not cold. So I guess it's weatherproof, despite odd level changes.

The furnishing is very minimal, for just two sims. Bunk beds would allow several kids to share the second bedroom if necessary. (I had included more furniture, but the gable decoration used to balance the facade cost a bomb. Sorry, but the basics are there and your sims can get a job.)

The upper balcony has room for a desk or skill objects, and both bedrooms have some extra space. There are a couple of nooks in the entry area, too.

One of the things I removed to get the price down was the driveway extension inside the garage. There is still parking outside, until your sims can afford the extension.

There is minimal garden, but a large front yard. Plenty of room for landscape enthusiasts. Or a pool. The back yard is very small and narrow.

Remember to water the flowers!
