Island Appliances

Appliances for islands are something I've always wanted in my game and has been a half done project of mine for over a year now. For some reason I had it in the back of my mind that what I was doing wasn't good enough and that I really needed to edit the island BHAVs so they worked like regular counters do. But revisiting this project just recently, I realized that that would be a worse solution because (in addition to new appliances) you'd have to have duplicate island meshes for each and every counter since they don't have the same mesh parts. I can't imagine anyone who'd want a catalog full of duplicate counters so here you have it, my original low tech solution, finally finished. I hope you'll get a lot of use out of these.

These are mesh and BHAV edits done on all of the Maxis dishwashers, trash compactors and Targa's wonderful SupaFridge (works like a full size fridge, see this post for details) so they can be used with island counters. They're completely functional, can be placed without cheats and allow for more versatility in how you arrange your kitchens. Freetime versions are available as well.

(Don't mind the arguing and crying in the background --Julien Cook stopped by to smack Dora around for spying on him.)

They're practical, fully animated and work well but they're not perfect. All of the islands are slightly different so I had to compromise and make these in a way that worked best for the majority of counters. Because of that, they're not flush with the counter tops (they stick out) and on some counters the knobs or other parts of the counter may poke through a bit as well. The way I set up my kitchen islands I never see the actual appliances anyway just the animations so, for me, those issues are very small and it's a compromise I'm happy to make. Although I did make every effort to make these as nice as I could from the appliance side of the island too.

Computer Friendly CC:
All of the meshes are slaved to the originals so the file sizes are kept to a minimum and as an added benefit, these will pick up any recolors you might have. They also have less polys than the originals.

Terms of Use:
None.

Special Thanks:
Credit goes to Targa and Lord Darcy for the modded mini fridge I cloned and Lord Darcy again for the extracted Freetime resources. This project was possible/much easier because of their hard work and generous policy.
