Many years ago, a bright star fell from the heavens and crashed to the earth. In the place where it fell, a spring began to flow. The good witches discovered that the spring was rich with magical properties, and so they built the Palace of the Fallen Star around it, and continue to guard it to this day... or so the legends tell.

Greetings Simmers! The Palace of the Fallen Star is something I've been working on, off and on, for the past couple of years... and now its finally complete!

A fair warning to those with slower computers! This is a large lot with a lot of stuff, fully painted ceilings, etc. I also used a building cheat to build this lot higher than normal. A slow computer will have problems with this lot. Large lots always come with their own gameplay issues, which I have addressed to the best of my ability. For example, coffee tables are provided near the espresso machine so that sims won't walk all the way to the desk on the second floor (ugh!) just to set down their empty cup. Seating and end tables in the front entryway give them a place to set the bills and read the paper. Plants which require maintenance are accessible and kept to a minimum. You should probably hire a maid if you can't "Appello Servantus" though, and your sims will want to learn to either ninja teleport or magivestum if they intend to make it to the carpool on time.

Enough of that though, lets take a tour!

Highlights of the Palace of the Fallen Star:
  • 5 Bedrooms
  • 2.5 Bathrooms
  • Unique indoor swimming pool with peacock fountain, natural light, and a view of the sky.
  • Fishable moat (accessible on either side of the front walkway).
  • Designed for good witches, including a secret room for cauldron and spellbook.
  • Telescope, easel, piano, and other skillbuilding objects.
  • Irregular-shaped rooms built with care for accessibility and trouble-free gameplay
  • Playtested by ninja witches!

The most distinguishing feature of this castle is the star shaped pool in its center, which is open above all the way up to the sky. Because of the hidden tunnels I've left open in the foundation (you can see in the basement view), the game reads the pool as being outside and gives it all that lovely natural light. And don't worry about weather -- that hole in the ceiling is only above the pool. Everything else is carefully covered. If you'd prefer, you can of course download a transparent tile and make this into a skylight, but I really like the open look. I imagine my witchy sims flying straight up into the sky here. Or maybe it wasn't a falling star at all, but an ancient alien spaceship! The big telescope is provided if you want to make it a sci-fi story... :cylon:

The palace has 5 bedrooms. The master bedroom occupies the front center tower, and comes with a private bathroom, private sitting area, and a secret room for all your cauldron and spellbook. I'm not sure if a fireman can get into a secret room, so... best to learn exflammo before you have a nice cozy fire.

The other four bedrooms are themed to the elements: fire, water, earth, and air. Perhaps you have a witch queen ruling here, and these bedrooms are for her court members. Maybe they are for her children, who she is raising up in the ways of magic. The story is yours to tell! Each of these elemental bedrooms has a crystal ball and "magic" mirror, and a pile of magical stuff. They also have a desk, in case you are using them for kids.

The fire bedroom features dragons and lots of candles; I had a hard time getting this one to not look evil. Perhaps one of your witches secretly is evil, and this is where you want to stick them? Its up to you.

The highlight of the water bedroom is the pool of water lilies next to the bed. (This is in fact not a pool, but a stage with pool flooring on it). The Hitchhikers Guide whale is suspended on the ceiling, a lost ship's wheel adorns the wall, and a picture of a grilled cheese is on the desk. Why does this ocean-themed witch have a painting of a sandwich on her desk? Because I have a terrible sense of humor and I couldn't resist the pun.

I took the earth bedroom more in the direction of a garden than barren rock and dirt. It follows a theme of blue fairies and flowers. This witch has a small flower garden planted on the stage next to her bed. Thanks to Hysterical Paroxysm's plastic flowers, this garden will never die.

The air bedroom was decorated to resemble a summer sky, and meant to be bright and airy. Sky blue, golden suns (sunflowers... there are those puns again), and butterflies make up this room. Not surprisingly, this witch keeps a bird companion.

The four element-themed bedrooms share a bathroom on the second floor. That bathroom is sectioned up so that you can have multiple sims using it at one time, but makes use of windows and glass doors to maintain the feel of being connected. So the toilet is technically in its own room, as are both the shower and the tub.

In addition to the four bedrooms and the bathroom, the second floor is where you'll find the kitchen and dining area. The dining area isn't in its own room at all; instead it sits in a sectioned off alcove off the main walkway that goes all around the star-shaped hole in the floor. This is a big, airy space with a gorgeous view of that star pool below and the open air above. There is a buffet table and radio here for your dinner parties.

Conveniently next door you'll find the kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped (including a pet dish for your spectral cats). You'll notice it has both a garbage can and a garbage chute. Your sims will first walk to the can with their trash, and then when you (or the maid) empty the can, they'll take it to the chute instead of going all the way down to the garbage can on the street. Because really, who's got time to cross a moat just to take out the trash?

The first floor has four main rooms connected by four stairwells (leading upstairs, down to the pool, and to the backyard), all built around the Pool of the Fallen Star. Each of these four rooms has a windowed view of the pool. The front entryway has the burglar alarm, a coat rack, and end tables and chairs. The living room boasts a large tv, a chess set, an exercise bike, and a cat scratch post for spectral kitties. The sitting room is a place to entertain guests; it has a grand piano, espresso machine, and juice bar. The study has a computer, bookshelves, and a seating area for reading. There is also a small half-bathroom just off the study.

The back yard has a small manicured garden and outdoor seating. There's space here if you'd like to knock out some bushes to add a hot tub, or a greenhouse, or whatever else you may desire.

Some of the towers of the palace contain additional objects for your sims. The tall towers on either side of the palace have an upgraded telescope in one and an easel in the other. One of the towers in the back of the castle has a violin and seating for your listeners. Most of the towers, however, are simply stairwells or decorative connecting points between walkways. I have not included close-up shots of all of them because I got very close to my picture limit and they mostly just have staircases and flowers, or perhaps some seating. Some of the upper levels of the towers are empty and just for show. All of the towers are fully lit up at night.

The version of this castle that I have uploaded is an edited version for MTS. (You will notice the name of the palace is actually "Palace of the Fallen Star MTS", and that is why). I have removed a volume of custom content, particularly sims 2 store objects. If you have the sims 2 store castle build set, I highly recommend using the blue flags in place of those fairy banners. Also, I used the castle build set and moveobjects cheat to build a small square tower around the chimney, and a matching one on the other side for the sake of aesthetics. The fireplace I used in my own copy is actually the white Casbah Casuals Fireplace by 40 Thieves Ltd, but the chimney is glaringly wrong for this lot and... well, LaBoheme Fireplace was the best second choice, so that's what I gave you all.

I hope you enjoy this palace!
