Updated: 22nd Mar 2023 at 9:45 PM - Further explanation of how parenting discipline works
Tested with latest updates (Infants update and Growing together pack) and seems to be working fine
Updated for Teen School Years
Ok so what inspired me to make this mod:
I was getting sick of my good sims getting into screaming matches with their mean family members so i wanted to use the parenting socials to tell them off instead without having to perform mean socials and thus lower their empathy and conflict resolution stats, getting them into angry moods and losing relationship points.
So now when my (Adult) sims evil (Adult) brother starts being mean, i get her to tell him off instead or send him on a time out, it stops him in his tracks and is funny to see
This is a simple override that basically just opens up the discipline socials on the pie menu for all ages
It does't open the other parenting socials, just the discipline ones
Sims can now discipline any other sim including NPC's
Adults can also be sent on time out - they even get the time out buffs
I haven't unlocked ground for adults
Conflicts: I haven't found any yet but most likely would conflict with any mod that edits the same resources i.e. other parenting mods
Created with Sims4Studio
How mean autonomy and discipline works for sims of all ages & why i made this mod
Just to clarify - This mod allows Kids, Teens and adults to discipline ANYONE (their is no autonomy in it so no kid, teen or adult will autonomously discipline anyone else but the option WILL be there in the pie menu for ALL sims)
I made this to serve a few issues
1. Without mods and without parental intervention when a sim is being mean to your sim there is no way of telling them politely to get lost and stop taking your mood out on me without just cutting the conversation and walking away. I don't want that, i want to tell that sim who is a good friend to stop ruining our friendship just because their in a bad mood Unfortunately there is no way of dong that and i'm not good enough at modding to make that.
the problem is:
2. The more your sims do certain kind of socials the more they start doing it autonomously. i don't want all my good sims to start being mean to random sims whenever they're angry so i made another option that they can use the parent discipline so it doesn't spam the mean socials and start increasing their mean autonomy, so whenever i catch a mean sim pulling one of my good sims into a mean conversation i find it more fun instead of just cutting the conversation to get my good sim send them on a time out which also increases their parenting skill instead of the mean autonomy.
have you ever noticed after playing a new save for some time your npc sims start gradually getting meaner and meaner?
here's why
2. If you ever use cheats to clear all moodlets you'll notice Adult sims also have character values although it is hidden (you can also use cheats to change adult character values (i do this often with my evil/mean sims when they getting over the top with the mean)) so being disciplined actually increases their character values (empathy) the same as it does teens and kids
So kids, teens AND adults with high empathy will not have there empathy dragged down by some sim taking out their anger on them at the same time the adult sim being disciplined will have an increase to their (hidden) character values the same way a teen or kid does
without mods the only sims that can discipline is parent/caregiver to teen/kids and only manually within a played household. so npc sims will never get disciplined without your intervention. If you have a few evil and mean sims in your world you will notice every npc even ones without bad traits gradually start becoming more and more mean because they are getting into mean conversations and no one to discipline them. you'll see teens and kids being mean to some poor sim with their parents standing right next to them doing nothing about it, if they get into a fight their parent will get the angry spot child fighting buff at the same time happy or uncomfortable buff if their child wins or loses yet do nothing about it without you manually switching to the household to manually send your child on a time out.
this i why i made this mod so in the event some sim is being mean to my sim i.e another sim is being mean to my teen and their parent or other nearby adult does nothing about it i take the matter into my own hands without having to be mean back. if my teens parent or other played adult is nearby i have them intervene if not i can have my teen/child do it themselves without dragging down their empathy scores or simply walking away and letting the mean sim get away with it.
whenever i see my neighborhood starting to get a bit ott with the mean i start using the parent disciplines (rather than use cheats) to start bringing the mean autonomy back down a bit)
