638 Vista Blvd aka Quaint Cottage
The white picket fence and relaxing porches on this old-fashioned bungalow are sure to provide a family with a lifetime of memories. Step inside and enjoy a warm fire in the family room. Step outside and admire the large backyard with plenty of space for improvements or additions. This fine home is sure to be a comfortable home for your family throughout the generations.
I was thumbing through TS3 neighborhoods a few months ago and this home at the top of Starlight Shores, occupied by Melanie Worthington and her grandson Gerbitz (possibly related to
those Worthingtons?), caught my eye. Shipping with Showtime, Quaint Cottage is, unrealistically for LA (which SS is based on), a decent-sized bungalow on a huge lot (4x5). But that lot size also meant that the TS3 version could surround a house perched on a small hill with a detached, sloped garage and elaborate landscaping. I loved the welcoming porches on the front and side, and the large windows that bring you into the home, so I thought it would be fun to recreate in TS2.
Although the name suggests otherwise, this is not a cottage, but rather a bungalow that is in keeping with a lot of the late-TS3 EP architecture. This style is probably most prevalent in University, but there are a handful of examples in Starlight Shores too. I tried to recreate the lot as accurately as possible, but did change the roof and knock down a few interior walls to open up the layout (as I didn’t have a 3-tile archway at my disposal). Otherwise, the floorplan is identical, with plenty of room to entertain in the large family room or do different activities in the side yard. The original house had a lot of plants, so I replicated that in a way that Nature enthusiasm sims will love. Flowerbeds and bushes line the driveway and surround the house, flowerboxes on the windows, a flower arranging station, and multiple garden plots and harvestable trees so you can grow your own produce.
The TS3 version leans heavily into Grandma-core furnishings, which isn’t my style, but I couldn’t abandon it entirely. I’m imagining this house was built in the 50′s, and has retained some of those original flourishes while slowly modernizing over time. My furnishing choices reflect a mix of cottage, modern, atomic, and comfy styles. Of course, the original teenager loner/gamer bedroom was too good to change, even if it stands in contrast to the rest of the house.

I needed a few key pieces of 3t2 CC to pull off this recreation. The 1-tile and 3-tile bungalow windows (from Showtime), and the Federal Door (from Ambitions) are conversions by Amotivam. I’ve also used 3 custom wall patterns from an old The Sims 2 Exchange lot for the shingle siding. These walls patterns are included since the original upload is no longer available.
The only piece of CC shown but not included is the Sung Gyu Sunburst Oriental Rug default replacement, seen in the study picture. That is by tvickiesims on Tumblr and is
available here.
NOTE ABOUT LOT SLOPE: The home is on raised terrain but was built on a perfectly flat lot. All edges will align with a flat neighborhood and will not distort surrounding terrain.
