In honor of Alessandra's retirement this month, I have decided to sim her.





Alessandra Ferri was born in Milan, Italy, in 1963. She studied at the Royal Ballet School on scholarship before joining The Royal Ballet in 1980. By 1984, she had been promoted to principal, and in 1985 Mikhail Baryshnikov (then ABT's artistic director) invited her to join the American Ballet Theatre as a principal. Looking over her vast repertoire, it seems there isn't a ballet or choreographer whose work she hasn't performed. Her most memorable roles include Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Giselle in Giselle, Princess Florine in The Sleeping Beauty, and the Sylph in La Sylphide. Ferri is also a permanent guest artist with the La Scala Ballet in Milan.

Her farewell performance will be the title role in Romeo and Juliet on June 23, 2007.
