Over here a row of units, usually on one level with a kitchen, are called flats. These would be good for students or for one or two sims just starting out.

Small kitchen with a full fridge, stove and bench. No indoor rubbish bins, but there are two outside.
All skilling items including bookshelf, TV and mirror in each unit plus outdoor chess in the common area.
Radio, phone, smoke detector and burglar alarm in each unit.

Outside BBQ and sitting area.

Recommend Menaceman's Lunatech Lighting Fix http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=315720 to make the game ceiling light actually sit flush to the ceiling.
