Riddle me this: When is a door not a door?
Answer: When it's a mirror.

Warning: this mirror is deeply disturbed. It suffers from dual identity, trying to function both as a mirror AND as a door.

This makes it shy, at first. When you place it, it will DISAPPEAR. I do not know why. But do not worry. Once you reload the lot, it will REAPPEAR. It is simply part of its magical nature.

Once it has reappeared, it will seem to be a normal (if somewhat large) mirror. Your Sims will be able to use it to do whatever they can ordinarily use mirrors to do. If you have mods that allow mirrors to do additional tasks, it will be able to do those, too.

But it will also function as a door. Not a swing-open "hello, everybody!" door, just a silent pass-through; a magic-door, if you will. The Sims simply... walk through it.

It's even more magical from the other side where nothing is visible at all. Since the door works both ways (as doors tend to), Sims will simply walk into a seemingly solid wall and vanish through it, thanks to the Looking-Glass on the other side.

Its uses are many. Secret passages in Clue Mansion builds. Scaring customers in clothing store dressing rooms. Invading your teenager's privacy. Hall of Mirrors funhouses. Or simply not using that same darned obvious "secret bookcase door" the game gives you.
