TS4 Animation Browser (TAB) — Browse and Preview The Sims 4 Animations & VFX

TS4 Animation Browser (TAB) is a standalone Windows utility designed to make it easier to explore the animation and VFX resources included with The Sims 4.

Rather than manually opening package after package to look for animation resources, the Browser scans your local game installation and builds a searchable library that can be filtered and previewed directly.

The tool is primarily intended for modders and creators, although it can also be useful to anyone interested in exploring how animations and visual effects are organized in the game.

Main Features

The current release can:

• Scan animation and VFX resources from your installed copy of The Sims 4
• Search resources by name, type, group, instance, pack or package
• Separate Sim / character animations, object animations and VFX
• Preview Sim animations using decoded game rigs
• Preview object animations
• Play, pause and scrub through animations
• Change playback speed and enable looping
• Orbit, pan and zoom around the preview
• Inspect VFX and particle resources
• Experimentally render sprite particles and Model Particles
• Display technical resource information
• Generate detailed diagnostics that can be copied or saved

The Browser also creates a local cache after scanning the game, allowing the animation library to load considerably faster on later launches.

Animation Preview
=======================

Character animation resources are decoded together with compatible rigs and displayed directly in the viewer.

This makes the Browser useful when trying to:

• identify an animation by name;
• see what an unfamiliar CLIP actually does;
• compare several related animations;
• inspect object animations;
• locate possible animations for a tuning or animation project;
• or simply explore the game's animation library without repeatedly launching The Sims 4.

Playback controls include a timeline, looping, playback speed and camera controls.

Experimental VFX Preview
=======================

VFX support is included, but should currently be considered experimental.
The Sims 4 uses a fairly complex visual-effects system, and not every shader, material, particle behaviour or Model Particle configuration has been reproduced yet.

As a result, some effects may render very well while others may:

• appear incomplete;
• have different particle placement or timing;
• use an approximate rendering behaviour;
• have material or transparency differences;
• or currently provide diagnostic information instead of a full preview.

Improving VFX fidelity is one of the areas of ongoing development.

Installation
=======================

This is a standalone program, not a Script Mod or package mod.

Do not put it in your Sims 4 Mods folder.

Download the Windows release, extract it if necessary, and run: TS4AnimationBrowser.exe
On first use, select your local The Sims 4 installation and allow the Browser to scan its resources.
The distributed application is self-contained and does not require users to separately install the .NET runtime.

• Windows 11 x64
• The Sims 4 installed locally

Windows 10 x64 is considered a best-effort legacy platform.

Local Cache
=======================

After the first successful scan, the program creates: TS4AnimationBrowser.dtab, in the same directory as the executable.
This is the Browser's compressed local library cache. It is protected for the current Windows user and is not uploaded anywhere.
If you delete it, nothing is lost from your game. The Browser will simply rebuild the cache the next time it scans your installation.

Updates and Internet Access
=======================

The Browser does not require an internet connection to inspect your game resources.
At startup, it may check the public release endpoint to see whether a newer version is available.
Updates are never automatically downloaded or installed.

Reporting Problems
=======================

When reporting an animation or VFX that does not work correctly, please include:

• the resource name;
• its type / group / instance information;
• the source pack or package when available;
• and the diagnostic output produced by the Browser.

This makes unusual resources much easier to investigate.
