Chinese Literature Major (Cultural Diversity)

This Chinese Literature major was created for mod the sims’ Multicultural Create Competition.

BACKGROUND

The Chinese written words can be dated back as far as 3000 BC, the primitive Chinese words were all actual drawings of the objects themselves, for example, the word for horse was the drawing of a horse, word for mountain was from a drawing that looked like a mountain, water for water, etc. Over several thousands of years, the written language evolved and formed the type of symbols (Han zi) we recognize today. The Chinese writing system is the oldest continuously used writing system in the world.

There are over 200,000 characters in the Chinese dictionary, a Chinese scholar might know 10,000 words or so, editors of Chinese newspaper might know 5000 words or so, college graduates (from a Chinese university) probably know 2000 to 4000 words, a large percentage of American born Chinese recognize less than 100 words (sigh).

The most fascinating things about Chinese written language are its richness and depth. I have heard that one is not a Chinese scholar unless one can read and comprehend the following masterpieces—Journey to the West, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Water Margin, and Dream of the Red Chamber. Older generations have a higher standard still, one must be able to compose Tang Dynasty style poems to be considered a Chinese scholar.

Chinese Literature Major was cloned from the Literature Major, all class hours and skills are the same as the original one. Therefore, focus skills are charisma, body, creativity, and mechanical. Sims who graduated summa cum laude majoring in Chinese literature will have a boost in the entertainment career, slacker, criminal, showbiz, and may include some of the Seasons’ careers (I cannot tell you which ones because I don’t play Seasons). Obviously, you need the University EP to use this major.

This new major has its own GUID 0x14AB83FF, does not overwrite maxis’ majors, and has its own custom major icon (made by me). The Chinese symbol is the word for literature. As usual, sims cannot choose any custom major using a computer (if they can that means the original maxis major has been overwritten!). Sims can choose custom majors right on campus by using FrikaC’s Majors Made Easier mod (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=107858). Note: If you already have the InSimenator mod, you don't need FrikaC's mod, the InSimenator can do the same.


This major has been tested by sending 2 teen sims (that were raised from birth) from 2 different families to the Academie La Tour, everything was working properly, including satisfying aspiration wants with memories. My young adults successfully graduated with this Chinese Literature Major without any problem. The game play was as smooth as it could be.

Description: The study of Chinese written language, Chinese calligraphy, the writings of Confucius and his disciples, classical literature, Tang Dynasty style poetry, Song Dynasty style verse, and traditional and modern composition.

Freshman first semester:
Chinese calligraphy: Drawing words using brush and ink.

Freshman second semester:
Writings of Confucius: The Four Books and the Five Classics.

Sophomore first semester:
Journey to the West: Story of the Great Sage Equaling Heaven.

Sophomore second semester:
Romance of the Three Kingdoms: Ancient wisdom.

Junior first semester:
Water Margin: 108 good men.

Junior second semester:
Dream of the Red Chamber: Family affairs.

Senior first semester:
Tang and Song Poetry: Analysis of evolution and structure of poems.

Senior second semester:
Composition: Traditional and modern style writing.
