Even in the busiest of Downtowns, not every building will be an immense skyscraper. True, you're not likely to see too many single-family ranch homes or low-income trailer parks right next door to the most modern towers, but you will see smaller buildings, with fewer occupants and lower prices, which still serve the needs of the modern urban Sim. Buildings like the new construction of Santa Fe Lofts fill just this niche; keeping in tune with urban design and lot size, while at the same time ensuring that the city isn't dominated exclusively by buildings so high that they vanish into the clouds.

As with several of my other buildings, this apartment complex was inspired by a building from the Facebook game CityVille, in this case, "Live Work Lofts." It is well situated on the fringes of a Downtown, or can be built right in the heart of the city center to provide a bit more open space between buildings far taller.

Designed mainly for practicality, the public spaces of this building aim to provide an open feeling without the clutter found in the lobbies of some more upscale buildings. The modern feel of stone tiles, polished hardwood balconies, and tubular steel railings and supports may not appeal to all Sims, but then again, city living isn't for everyone.

This building includes 5 standard apartments suited for one or two Sims, beginning at $1602 per week, and a penthouse apartment for those rich enough to move up in the world, but humble enough to remain true to their midlevel-walk-up roots. (To be honest, the penthouse here isn't really up to the standards of luxury most Sims would demand for a weekly rent of $6507- I'd suggest simply using it to house a larger household than would fit in the other apartments on this lot.) The fourth floor apartments are perfect for a comedic pairing of an aspiring actress (and temporary waitress) on the rear side of the lot, and two eccentric-yet-lovable science geeks on the side nearest the street. (Yes, I enjoy watching The Big Bang Theory, and that apartment can be made to look surprisingly similar to Sheldon and Leonard's! ) On the other hand, if your Sims tend more toward the professional or athletic, either apartment could easily be furnished to suit their interests as well.

This building is hardly tall enough to qualify as a skyscraper even in the practically height-limited world of TS2, but it is still larger than most 2X2 lots, so on particularly slow computers, be aware of the possibility of greater-than-usual lag time when moving around the lot or saving.

Lot Size: 2x2
Lot Price: $1602 - $6507
