Desolation Peak Fire Lookout

So here is a fire lookout turned hotel for your mountainous vacation spots. If you aren't from the west, or never escape urbanization often, you may not be familiar with fire lookouts. Before the age of satellite imagery and wireless internet cameras, the Forest Service built and staffed dozens of small buildings usually perched on the top of high elevation peaks for forest fire surveillance. They had their heyday about around mid-century but now today are sparely used. The one I made here was modeled from the cupola style lookout, which was the most popular kind built in the 1920s. Since they are the oldest of their kind, only a handful of them still exist today.

The lookout is a one bedroom hotel with two beds in the cupola above with a small kitchen and dining area downstairs. The check in counter is conveniently placed out of sight and mind in the basement and the bathroom is in a separate outhouse next to the lookout. If the two beds won't be enough, there is also a tent next to a campfire outside. This lot fits nicely on a peak in my Evergreen Range (Shown Below)
