| Fish stored in the refrigerator will no longer decay as if they were sitting on a marble slab, at noon, outside, beneath a blistering mid-summer sun. |
Source
I’m going to leave this available for people with older games, but unless the fix is officially declared broken or turns out to be working vastly different from this mod (so it would make sense to keep it around as an “alternate flavour”), I’m not going to support / update / compatibilitycheck it any longer.
ETA: so in a sense it does work differently, because what they did is finally introduce the idea of fish to their fridges .. but not to the sim inventories or the fishbowls. But since there are no other differences, there is no update needed anyway.
--
This is a fix for the ultra-fast decay of fish freshness. Apparently EA simply forgot to inform their fridges and other inventories of the fact that fish are also something to be kept fresh (just like other food). Fix may become obsolete when/if they get around to fixing it themselves (they're aware).
I made it so that fish in bowls do not decay at all, fish in fridges at a rate that I think is reasonable, and fish in sim inventories at twice the fridge rate. See the screenshots for what that means in in-game time (they're all from the same test game): Saturday 11PM is when the last fish is caught (all three are "Great" at that point), the ones in the fridge are still "Good" the next evening, the inventory fish is at "Average".
Note that fish freshness when cought has a random variation (anything between "Average" and "Excellent" is possible) and these are all ranges, not fixed values. Raw fish will still decay faster than prepared food; this is on purpose since I think this is what's realistic.
Default override, XML tuning only.
This will conflict with anything that touches the following resources:
commodity_Fish_Freshness_339BC5BD_00000000_0000000000012CF0.xml
objects.components.inventory_enums_03B33DDF_00000000_40441721EB0ACFAC.xml <-- Note that this is also used in scumbumbo's Packing Crates! I recommend removing this mod if you want to use the crate, because the crate is much more useful. =)
Compatibility:
2015-04-04 – Obsolete for 1.5.139 and should no longer be used.
2015-01-14 – No update needed for 1.3.32.1010 (files match).
2014-12-16 – Partly obsolete with 1.3.18 (see above).
2014-11-12 – No update needed for 1.2.16.10 (files match).
2014-10-22 – No update needed for 1.0.797.20 (files match).
2014-10-03 – Checked for differences in 1.0.732.20, I don't see any significant changes.
Please make sure that your game is patched to at least 1.0.677.20, otherwise it won't know what to do with this.
Install instructions for pre-1.0.732.20 games (for all XML tuning)
1. - Drop the .package in /Mods as usual
2. - Make an empty folder named "unpackedmod" in /Mods
3. - In your resource.cfg, add the line
DirectoryFiles unpackedmod autoupdate
(i.e.: open that file in a text editor and add the line "DirectoryFiles unpackedmod autoupdate" (without quotes) underneath whatever other text it has.)
This sounds bizarre, but it is necessary because EA didn't 100% test custom tuning pre-release, and then sort-of fixed it with the patch on Sept. 9 .. but only sort of. The result is, for now, that this kind of mod will only work in .package format when an "unpackedmod" folder exists and resource.cfg points to it -- even if you don't actually need it for packages.
This has been resolved with the patch 1.0.732.20, see here.
