UPDATE 03.01.2022:
I found an issue with both versions of the download; the game throws constant attraction score nil value errors when trying to calculate attraction to sims that I've given secondary aspirations to. In plainer words: if one of those sims is on the lot and any other sim that likes their gender is also on the lot, you'll get constant error messages (or, if you don't have testing cheats enabled, the jump bug on said sim). The bad news is: if you already attached the first version of the pool to your neighborhoods, it needs fixing. The upside is: if you have even rudimentary knowledge of SimPE, it's a breeze.

Instructions on how to fix this issue if you added the pool to a hood:
1. Go into My Documents/The Sims 2/Neighborhoods, and find the folder with the affected neighborhood. Looking into the "Storytelling" folder might help you identify it.
2. Open the ####_Neighborhood.package file, let SimPE load.
3. In the Resource Tree panel, click on Sim Description (SDSC).
4. We're looking for twelve specific sims from the new pool.

The names in the default pool are: Iago Pérez, Josh Kowalski, Rosa Melati, Candy Cain, Wisteria Quackenbush, Mata Neengia, Jerri Mansfield, Vienna Venturo, Vanya Venturo, Desmond Ramsey, Ravi Srivastava, and Stefan Aspland.

Click on one of them.
5. In the Plugin View, switch from "Overview" to "Freetime".
6. If the sim has anything in the Secondary Aspiration window, switch it to nothing. All but Desmond Ramsey will also have "1" in the "used" window, you can replace it with a zero.
7. Commit, repeat with every afflicted sim, save.

If you attached the subhood version, their names will be different. You can use the Tools> Neighborhood> Sim Browser to see only townies and see if you recognize new names; you can also backup your neighborhood and mess with a copy to find them out - in said copy, create a new sim, move them in, with testing cheats enabled shift-click on the mailbox, and choose "make me know everyone". Then look for sims _000, _001, _0003, _008, _009, _011, _012, _013, _014, _019, _031, and _032 in the screenshots attached to this upload (the image filenames). Write down their names.

Alternatively, you can summon them on a paused lot, make them selectable, change their secondary aspiration, and make them unselectable again. It's either the fact that I added the secondary aspirations via SimPE or that the game recreated the sims with them that causes the issue - if you re-add them in the game, all should be good.

Apologies for the trouble - I really thought I tested this expansion every which way before uploading it.

If you don't use SimPE and none of what I wrote makes sense to you, but you noticed that some of the new sims (and your playable) drop actions from their queue and jump in place since you've added this pool, zip your neighborhood folder up and send it to me, and I'll try to fix it for you.

If you downloaded these files, but haven't created a new hood/added them to an existing one - all you have to do is remove the folders you downloaded and replace them with the new upload.

---------------

An expansion to my default townie pool, in the form of either a merged new N001 default, or a separate subhood that can be added to any existing hood.

The main hood default replacement replaces Goopy, Sandy, and the rest of the Pleasantview crew as the townies that appear whenever you create a new hood. This will not change anything in your existing hoods, and will only add sims to the ones you create after putting this folder in the game files.

The 34 new sims are shown in screenshots attached to this post. To see the closeups and details of the original 40, attached to the default main hood version, see the previous version.

The path to place the N001 folder in is:
UC: Program Files (x86)\Origin GAMES\The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection\Double Deluxe\Base\TSData\Res\UserData\Neighborhoods
Other versions: Program Files\...\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\UserData\Neighborhoods

(there should be only one N001 folder in this locaiton, and make sure NOT to merge this folder with the one already in your files! If there's already an N001 folder in your UserData\Neighborhoods, REMOVE IT BEFORE ADDING THIS NEW ONE.)

The subhood contains 34 sims - 5 adults, 8 elders, 8 children, and 15 teens. The sims have different fitness states, glasses, makeup, hairstyles for weather, as well as some extra traits (private school students; a couple family relations; skill badges etc). There are no lots in this subhood, and it can be deleted after being added to your main neighborhood - the sims will be added to your hood's Townie family.

The path to add this folder to (you can have more than one folder here, as long as none of them have the same name/prefix for files):
UC: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection\Best of Business\EP3\TSData\Res\NeighborhoodTemplate
Other versions: Program Files\...\The Sims 2 Open For Business\TSData\Res\NeighborhoodTemplate

Little features I'm proud of:
- Some sims have recessive genes different form their primary ones
- Some teens and children go to the private school
- Two sets of siblings in the new sim pool
- Skill badges!
- Slightly staggered ages for adults and elders
- Main hood version's names will be the same in every game language
- Secondary aspirations for many sims
- Snakebite Sue

Planned:
- Subhood with sims moved in/in bin to retain names/for easier customization
- Version with the sims using my custom eyesets for more variety
- Sims with predefined supernatural states
- Hand-picked LTWs

Known issues:
- Marianne Baudelaire (elder woman with french braid] won't show up with your default eye replacemnts right away - she needs to use the mirror to change her appearance (you can quit the window without changing anything) for her eye overlay to reset.
- Badges are randomized in the main hood version - every time you create a new hood with these sims, they will have different ones. It's annoying to me, personally, but it still means you will always have competent employees to hire for your business, so eh.

Notes:

- You need OFB to use the subhood version, as weel as Mootilda's fix subhood selection mod.
- The hood contains no NPCs or sims other than the townies (so waiters, newspaper carriers, burglars etc). They will be either pulled from their associated EP's templates, or will be generated by the game as needed if you have disabled the templates.
- Sims in the subhood version will have their names randomized when they're added to a hood. The only way to avoid it is to create the subhood with sims on lots or in the bin (which I might add as an option for people who want an easier wya to customize the townies after adding them) and townify them yourself.
- All sims were created by me, and some of them are available for download separately, and with cc, on my tumblr.
- The sims are wearing mostly basegame content, though some are wearing EP/SP clothes or hairstyles, as well as some of them using jewellery.
