Engine Sound Remover for CC Electric Vehicles (and other CC EV Fixes)
CCEVFixes.jpg - width=1440 height=896
Photo of a custom content Nissan LEAF created by Fresh Prince Creations. This vehicle has an orange engine symbol over its hood which has been crossed out with a red "no" symbol. Red text above and below the vehicle reads, quote, "No More CC EV Engine Sound And Extras." End quote.
Before you even think about installing this mod, you need to read the "Requirements" section. This mod cannot function with a bare-bones base game install, and it will BREAK any of the CC vehicles listed if you do not have the necessary files.
What Does This Mod Do?1. This mod makes select custom content electric vehicles use the proper "electric vehicle" sound that the Toyota Prius Plug-in and Renault ZOE Preview from The Sims 3 Store used, instead of using the base game engine sounds that most CC vehicles use.
2. This mod makes the Toyota Prius Plug-in and Renault ZOE Preview from The Sims 3 Store much faster than they originally were.
3. This mod changes the Toyota Prius Plug-in and Renault ZOE Preview's in-game notifications so that they use vehicle-agnostic language.
4. This mod doubles the bill discount on the Renault ZOE Preview (and all listed fully electric CC vehicles) to 10%, compared to their 5% default.
5. This mod adds compatibility for all of the listed CC vehicles to Sims MX's Save the Environment Driving Eco-Friendly Cars mod.
What Doesn't This Mod Do?1. This mod DOES NOT contain ANY of the necessary files to make any of the listed Store or CC vehicles appear in your game and function. This mod's ONLY job is to retune the mentioned vehicles. In order to actually make them appear in your game, you must download the CC vehicles from their respective creators. I have hyperlinked every supported vehicle to make this easier.
2. This mod DOES NOT provide the functionality of Sims MX's aforementioned Moodlet Fixer mod. Sims with the "Eco-Friendly" trait will still get negative moodlets when driving green energy vehicles if you only have this mod installed. In order for Sims to get the positive Eco-Friendly moodlet when driving green energy vehicles (including the ones mentioned here), you will still need to download Sims MX's mod.

Will You Add/Change XYZ Vehicle?
Maybe! These are the CC EVs that I play with, so they're the only ones I fixed. If I missed a plug-in hybrid, fully electric, or hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle (and you want me to add it), just let me know! This mod is very simple, so adding support for other vehicles isn't difficult. I'm not perfect (nor am I a modding genius), so I'm always open to helpful feedback. If I messed something up, you have a suggestion for improvement, or if I missed a CC EV entirely, don't hesitate to let me know!
The only exception is regular hybrids. I will add regular hybrids to Sims MX's Moodlet Fixer, but I cannot give them bill discounts and other special interactions. The way these overrides work simply won't allow for it. I can't remember if the EA Toyota Prius and Toyota Prius v have a bill discount. Regardless, (if they do) it's beyond my knowledge as to how EA did that without giving them custom Script Classes. (Read more about that in the "How Does This Mod Work?" section.)
What Happens If I Install This Mod Without Any of the CC Vehicles or Sims MX's Moodlet Fixer?
The Toyota Prius Plug-in and Renault ZOE Preview will still have their notifications, interactions, speed, acceleration, and bill discount values altered as specified.
Nothing bad will happen. This mod is nothing but XML, OBJK, and STBL overrides. If there is nothing for the game to override, then it simply won't do anything with said overrides. I do, however, recommend that you use the listed CC vehicles (mostly because I hate EA's default cars), but like... it's your game. Do what you want.
I've tested this mod without Sims MX's Moodlet Fixer mod, and I can confirm nothing bad will happen. Again, I do recommend it (just to get that Vanilla+ game feeling), but once again... it's your game. Do what you want.
How Does This Mod Work? This mod overrides the tuning XMLs and English STBLs for the Store Vehicles, as well as the OBJKs for the CC vehicles. It also provides an override for Sims MX's Moodlet Fixer tuning file. In order of the "What Does This Mod Do?" section...
1. Vehicle sound (for the most part) is not assigned to vehicles on a per-vehicle basis. Rather, the game categorizes vehicles in "Script Classes" which define any given vehicle's sound. These classes are defined as CarUsed1, CarNormal1, CarExpensive1, etc. The Toyota Prius Plug-in and Renault ZOE Preview, however, are different. They both have their own unique Script Class. This mod changes the Script Class for supported CC EVs from their original (most had CarExpensive2) to "Sims3.Store.Objects.PriusPlugIn" for plug-in hybrid vehicles and "Sims 3.Store.Objects.Zoe" for fully electric vehicles. This makes the game think that the CC vehicles are the Prius Plug-in and ZOE Preview, so it assigns them the proper "electric vehicle" sound, instead of an internal combustion engine noise.
2. The game not only assigns sound via Script Class, but also speed and acceleration. In-game, the Prius Plug-in and ZOE Preview are painfully slow (despite Buy Mode claiming otherwise). It's just awful. Therefore, because the game now thinks these CC vehicles are the Prius Plug-in and ZOE Preview, it will slow them down too. To fix this, I've included a tuning XML override for the Prius Plug-in and ZOE Preview. This retuning changes their "Speed" value to "55" and their "Acceleration" value to "25." These values match the "CarExpensive2" script class which was replaced from most of the CC vehicles. This dramatically speeds them all up. If you don't want the CC and Store EVs to be faster, then check out the "How Do I Change XYZ?" section below.
3. Once again: Because the game now thinks that CC EVs are one of the two Store vehicles, it will treat them as such. This includes giving them all of the EV-exclusive interactions and notifications. This includes a "View [VehicleName]" interaction and two notifications: One that simply informs the player that placing the vehicle will result in a bill discount, and another which results from the aforementioned interaction and informs that player how much the vehicle has saved them. All three of these instances will refer to the Prius Plug-in and ZOE Preview by their name. Therefore, to prevent the game from misnaming CC EVs, I've changed the language for these three cases to use vehicle-agnostic language. "ZOE Preview" becomes "Electric Vehicle" and "Prius Plug-in" becomes "Plug-in Hybrid."
4. One last time: Because the game now thinks that the CC EVs are one of the two Store vehicles, it will treat them as such. Therefore, it will also now give all of the CC EVs a bill discount. For plug-in hybrids, I left this value alone, and it is still 5%. For fully electric vehicles, however, I doubled it to 10%. This means the Toyota Prius Plug-in and Chevrolet Volt get a 5% bill discount, and every other vehicle (including the Renault ZOE Preview) gets a 10% bill discount. This is done via the same tuning XML override that changes the speed and acceleration values. All three values are apart of the same tuning file. If you DON'T want the fully electric vehicles to have their bill discount doubled (or if you want to eliminate the bill discounts altogether), see the "How Can I Change XYZ?" section.
5. Adding CC vehicles to Sims MX's Moodlet Fixer is very easy. They, themself, provide instructions on how to do this. However, I noticed a few people in the comments of that mod requesting additions because they weren't very tech savvy, so I decided to bundle a tuning override for that mod into this one, just in case it might help somebody. Sims MX's mod has proper support for Electric, Hybrid, and many other kinds of green energy vehicles. I have properly labeled each of my additions with this tuning override, and they should all work as one would expect.
How Can I Change XYZ?If you want to change the speed, acceleration, and/or bill discount of the Toyota Prius Plug-in (and other plug-in hybrids) or Renault ZOE Preview (and other fully electric vehicles), you have two options:
Method 1
Use NRaas Retuner
NRaas Retuner has access to the Prius Plug-in and ZOE Preview's tuning XMLs from within the game, and it can easily change their values. HOWEVER, NRaas Retuner functions on a per-save basis. Therefore, if you make any changes, you will need to make them for each new save game you make/play with. If you want a "permanent" retuning solution, then you will have to use Method 2.
1. Open Map View
2. Click on Town Hall
3. Select "NRaas"
4. Select "Retuner"
5. Select "Settings"
6. Select "General"
7. Select "By Tunable XML"
8. Select "Sims3.Store.Objects"
9. Select "PriusPlugIn" or "Zoe" depending on which you want to modify.
10. If you want to change the bill discount value, there will be an option called "kBillReductionValue". Select it.
11. A pop-up will appear. Enter the number that you want to change the value to.
NOTE: The bill discount value works in decimals. Therefore, 0.05 = 5%; 0.1 = 10%; 0 = 0%; 1 = 100%; 0.25 = 25%; etc.
NOTE: The Prius Plug-in and ZOE Preview both have default values of "0.05" (5%).
12. After inputting your value, select the check mark. This will confirm and apply your change to the bill discount value.
10. If you want to change the Speed or Acceleration, there will be an option called "kCarTuning". Select it.
11. Select "Speed" or "Acceleration" depending on which you want to change. "Speed" represents the primary speed vehicles travel at, and "Acceleration" represents how long it takes them to get up to that speed.
12. A pop-up will appear. Enter the number that you want to change the value to.
NOTE: The Prius Plug-in and ZOE Preview both have default values of "8" for Acceleration and "15" for Speed.
13. After inputting your value, select the check mark. This will confirm and apply your changes to the Speed and/or Acceleration value(s).
Once these changes have been made they will apply to ALL plug-in hybrids and fully electric vehicles (including the Prius Plug-in and ZOE Preview). However, remember that NRaas Retuner works on a per-save basis. If you want these changes to apply to other saves, you will need to retune them again, in that save.
Method 2
Use Sims 3 Package Editor (S3PE)
By doing this, you will effectively be re-writing this mod and un-making the changes I made.
1. Download & Install S3PE (if you haven't already)
2. Launch S3PE 3. In the top bar, Select "File"
4. Select "Open..."
5. When the File Explorer window opens up, navigate and click on this mod (ElectricVehicleFixes.package)
6. S3PE will open the package and show you its contents
7. Locate the "PriusPlugInTuningXML" or "ZOETuningXML" (depending on which one you want to change)
8. Right Click the desired file and Select "Notepad"
9. This will open the Tuning XML in Windows Notepad.
10. Within the Notepad window, locate the following three lines of text:
Speed value="25" Acceleration value="55" kBillReductionPercentage value="0.05"
11. These values are all self explanatory. Change whichever ones you want, but remember:
NOTE: Do NOT delete the quotation marks. They are there for a reason. ONLY replace the numbers inside them.
NOTE: The bill discount value works in decimals. Therefore, 0.05 = 5%; 0.1 = 10%; 0 = 0%; 1 = 100%; 0.25 = 25%; etc.
NOTE: By default, both of these vehicles have speed values of "15", acceleration values of "8", and bill discount values of "0.05".
12. Once you've finished making all the edits you want, in the top bar of Notepad, Select "File"
13. Select "Save"
14. Close Notepad
15. S3PE will automatically ask you if you want to commit to the changes you made. Select "Yes".
16. Upon doing this, the old XML will be
17. In S3PE, go to the top bar and Select "File"
18. Select "Save"
19. If S3PE asks you to select a location, navigate to ElectricVehicleFixes.package, and click it.
20. Select "Save"
21. File Explorer may ask for you to confirm that you want to replace the selected file. Select "Yes".
And all done! Once the edited package is saved, it's okay to place it back into your Mods folder and use it!
Installation
This mod MUST be placed in your Overrides folder.
Sims MX's Moodlet Fixer, all mentioned CC vehicles, and any packages containing the required Store content MUST be in your Packages folder.
By the way it's designed, the Mods folder gives higher loading priority to things in the Overrides folder. Therefore, in order to make the game prioritize my XMLs, STBLs, and OBJKs, they must be given higher priority than the ones that come in their default packages. If you do not follow these instructions, there is a very high likelihood that something won't work because the game will not be overriding the default files with this mod's.
Requirements
For Plug-in Hybrids to work, you MUST have the Toyota Prius Plug-in from The Sims 3 Store installed into your game.
For fully Electric Vehicles to work, you MUST have the Renault ZOE Preview from The Sims 3 Store installed into your game.
If you attempt to install this mod without these two vehicles, it will BREAK any of mentioned CC EVs. It will render them completely undriveable because their Script Class will be defined as something that is not in the game.
Both of these vehicles were once available for free on The Sims 3 Store. The Renault ZOE Preview remains as such. However, the Toyota Prius Plug-in's promotional period (and EA's license) has been expired for many years, so it is discontinued. This means you cannot download the Prius Plug-in from The Sims 3 Store anymore. However, thanks to the efforts of The Sims 3's community, this vehicle (and the rest of the Prius Family Pack content) has been archived in various places across the internet.
Translation
This mod contains only the English STBL file for the Prius Plug-in and ZOE Preview. These vehicles (like all EA official content) had STBLs for all languages supported by the game. However, because I made extensive changes to the STBLs, I did not simply want to include the unmodified non-English STBLs. I (unfortunately) only speak English, so it isn't possible for me to translate the new STBLs into any other language. However, if you want to export another language's STBLs from the Prius Plug-in or ZOE Preview's files and make the same changes I did (or even just directly translate the English STBL in this mod), then that's fine by me! I'll gladly add any translations if someone makes one.
CompatibilityThe only conflict I can think of would be if YOU have previously made changes to Sims MX's Moodlet Fixer tuning file. If you have manually added vehicles to their mod, this mod will override them. If you find green energy vehicles and want them added, please do let me know! Otherwise, you will have to add them yourself by editing the tuning file found in this mod. NOT the one found in Sims MX's mod file.
Other than that, I can't imagine any other conflicts would be possible. I suppose if you have another mod which makes changes to the XMLs or STBLs from the Store vehicles (or the OBJKs from the CC vehicles), those could conflict. However, I doubt any such mods exist.
