In Sims2, if you surround an area with 4 rooms, it will be dark, regardless of whether it has a roof or not. Imagine my delight when I discovered that in Sims4...the sun shines in!!!

I've been wanting to build a home with a true courtyard for a long time and this one fits the bill. In addition, being a pre-fab home, it falls in with my sustainable architecture series.

C3 Design, also known as the "Pinwheel House" is the result of a partnership between the Rockwell Group, a powerhouse in hospitality and theatrical architecture, and oddly enough, Viking Range, the appliance people. The home is made of 4 modular units arranged around a central open atrium, visually giving rise to its nickname.

The courtyard is not that big and will be in shadows and moonlight for a big part of the day but it's a lot of fun to watch the sun move through around mid-morning. Having a grill appropriately close at hand beats hiking out to the backyard and the sound of the fountain is incredibly soothing.

This home really needed a 30x30 lot of which there seems to be none and I was not satisfied with any of my landscaping, all of which seemed to detract from the lot. The house is very centrally focused so I finally just redefined the space with tile. This would be an awesome house to add a swimming pool to, come November.

This house looks great from every angle and I filled it with way more furnishings than I usually put in an upload but CC free at this point so why not? You can tell I could just not stop taking pictures... deleted more than what I kept. I'm so glad I decided to redevelop the waterfront as residential. The views in this neighborhood are outstanding. Just imagine sitting at your desk, working at the computer, watching the paddlewheelers ply the canal...
