Updates!
  • 2024-01-25:
    (1) Now compatible with the Urbz video game, allowing you to buy it from any video game rack and not just the custom Urbz rack. Note that you need the Urbz game in the first place for this to work.
    (2) Due to an oversight, the SSX 3 game was not buyable. Yes, technically it's added to every household by default, so there's no need to buy it. I included it anyway, just in case.
    (3) Fixed an error in the Custom Magazines patch that could've led to Object Errors for the edge case of an invalid rack object being called.
    (4) I stripped down the Custom Magazines patch to not include dupe resources anymore. This now means that you will always need the base mod, and the patch in addition if you use Pick'N'Mix's Custom Magazines mod.

After my work on the Video Game Counter Rack fix, I realised that it wasn't quite enough for Sims to only look at The Sims 3. They want to play it, too!
In an unmodded game, this is no problem as a kind individual called Rod Humble visits a new household first thing in the morning to drop off a computer with Sims 3 pre-installed. However, some players, one of them being me, have banished Mr. Humble from the Sims realm using mods. So where else to get the game from?

There is an option to get it through Buy Mode, but I wasn't satisfied with that. I wanted The Sims 3 to be in the game racks at the local electronics store, just like all the other video games.
So with that, I went to work, and this mod is the result of my endeavours.

With this simple mod in your Downloads folder, you can not only pick The Sims 3 from any game rack you want, floor or counter, but Sims will also proceed to the checkout like with any other video game, to purchase it for §95 like any other video game. As it always should've been!
Once home, your Sims can then enjoy Sims 3 - or whatever you put as its replacement - on their home console or on any computer they want.

As an added bonus, Urbz: Sims in the City got the same treatment. It previously needed an extra rack placed just to be able to buy it - now there is no more such need.

While I was at it, I also removed some leftover code that was likely made to check for another, eventually scrapped video game.

Requirements
Expansion Packs: FreeTime.
Neither Rod Humble nor The Sims 3 are a thing without this EP, so it's pretty obvious that it would be required to see an effect. If you don't have the EP, then the mod will still work, but cause no changes.

Conflicts and Notes
Obviously, anything that also overrides one of the above resources will conflict with this mod.
  • Both versions of Pick'N'Mix's Custom Magazines mod, as well as Hobby Magazines by the same creator, conflict with my mod. To resolve this, please download the compatibility patch and make it load last. That way, the game won't only check for the hobby and custom magazines but also for Sims 3 and Urbz to display as purchasable things.
  • This mod will do its job just fine on its own, but it is made to complement my Video Game Counter Rack fix, which includes fixes for the autonomous Browse interaction, as well as a proper video game box for The Sims 3 (credits to Lamare!). In an unmodded game, Sims 3 uses the game box of Command & Conquer 3, which may not look the way you'd want it to.
