 Say Thanks!
Note: This program is not an invite for you to send me your LEs, outside of ones potentially caused by my own mods. Its purpose is for you to potentially figure out the problem yourself.
However, if the Q&A doesn't cover a general question or the program has some bug or can't import some LE file then you are very welcome to talk to me.
Also, please do not call this program "LE Viewer" or "LE Reader".

What is this?
A standalone application that let's you view The Sims 4 LastException (LE) files in a human-readable way. It may help you find what exact mod is causing issues, especially when it comes to LEs that happen after game updates.

It also comes with a few quality of life features:
  • Automatic opening of new LE files while the game is running. (Can be disabled)
  • Automatic closing of open LE files when a new TS4 game session is started, can be disabled together with the last option.
  • Keeps an index of script files, so script file paths can be automatically associated with certain mods or the base game. So the user may not have to look through the script paths.
  • Automatic re-indexing of your mods folder if you add or remove mods (Can also be done manually)
  • Ability to partially import MCCC's reports. Only done automatically if Better Exceptions (BE) is also not installed, as MCCC sometimes keeps the LEs only to its own report if BE is also not installed.
  • Support for all languages that The Sims 4 also supports. Albeit, translated through AI and the linked Q&A is only in English.
Showcase / Usage guide

Installation
  • Download the .zip file
  • Extract the contents to a folder that isn't touched by TS4
    • So not your "Mods" folder, the "The Sims 4" folder, the game installation folder, or any of their subfolders
  • Run the application
    • If Windows' Defender Smart Screen comes up with "Windows protected your PC" then hit "More Info" and then "Run Anyway" (Also, see the "Why should I trust this project? [...]" section later in this description)

Can this be used together with Better Exceptions and MCCC?
Yes. The primary purpose of LE Formatter is being a last resort to when BE isn't able to provide you with a report, as you can even view the actual LE (somewhat nicely formatted) on the very bottom of your BE report. BE's report also gives you a good summary as to what may be the problem, while LE Formatter just gives you information that you have to interpret yourself. MCCC's report is also useful if you want to upload it to a support Discord server, as some do accept these for reading your LEs.

How do I use this?
For a general overview see the showcase above, more specifically though the Q&A over at Github.

Why the bold "may", is it not that useful outside of LEs caused by game updates?
LEs that are caused by game updates can more often show very directly the way they are broken. The program can still be useful in finding general causes of LEs, but may be less so because the way code works is just complicated. See the Q&A for more information.

Why Windows-only currently?
I don't own a single piece of Apple hardware. I will look into getting some at a later date. Though you will also have to wrestle Apple's Gatekeeper just like Windows user have to do with Smart Screen.

Why should I trust this project? It says that Windows' Smart Screen doesn't trust it.
I do not sign the application for privacy reasons. If you want to build the entire project yourself or just look at the source code, the entire project is on Github.
