My architect Sim met a woman. She's a college graduate, an author, an accomplished chef, and a Tai chi master on the fast track to success in the business world. And she's beautiful! After her last promotion she was ready to move out of her Factory Starter and into something more becoming the president of a large company. That's when she met a handsome and talented architect.

She's a modern woman in a modern age, and she wanted her home to reflect that. She has an ethnically rich heritage and she wanted it to reflect that too. Could the architect strike a balance between the two? And more importantly, could he strike her fancy?

It's always a challenge designing for my ethnic Sims; can I express their heritage without burying them in it?

The home is thoroughly modern, with the clean, straight lines my architect Sim and I love, minimal landscaping, and lots of natural light. The addition of wood paneling to the exterior and stone tile to the front and rear patios warms the architecture without detracting from its modern appeal, as does the modern-styled wood fence.

I used wood furniture to warm the interior and, with a few plants, give it a slightly earthy feel, but I was careful to choose furniture pieces that would also keep it feeling modern. Thanks to some very talented and thoughtful creators, I was able to find African decor that suits a modern lifestyle. Though it may seem like a lot of custom content, I promise I used it sparingly.

Small homes are my favorite to build. I like seeing just how small I can get them without losing playability and aesthetic appeal. This home has one bedroom, a small kitchen, a smaller bath, and a combined living-dining area. Still, as small as it is, there's plenty of room to entertain and move around. The covered entrance is almost another room, and it's a cozy place to greet the neighbors when they come calling. A pool and large patio area take up most of the backyard, but there's a wide strip of grass along one side of the house that your nature-loving Sims can develop to their heart's content.

This is becoming one of my favorite houses to play. But I'm not sure how much longer my Sim will live here. Her interest in the architect has deepened, as has his interest in her. They don't know it yet, but they were made for each other.
