1954 Mid Century Modern: Pacific Living

The floor plan pics are up. I apologize for not including them with the original upload. I was working on two houses at the same time and must have put them in the folder for the other house. (Now I just have to find the floor plan pics for that house.) No excuses though, I should have realized during upload that they weren't there. Again, I apologize.

This 1954 Mid Century Modern has it all: 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a large eat-in kitchen, a large living-dining area, a pool and patio, a covered patio, a garage, and loads of natural light! The only thing I would change if I could is the roof - to make it look more like the original plans. But it doesn't affect playability, just my Virgoan sensibilities.

I made the usual changes to the plans and juggled the bedrooms to add a master bath. There was no avoiding the long, dark hallway, which was typical of most of the MCMs I remember from my youth. But by moving the hall door and making it a double archway, I was able to take advantage of all the natural light pouring into the living area to brighten it up.

The large covered patio is what attracted me to this house, and putting a bar in it ensured that Sims would use it. If you want to get more use out of it, you could add a game or pool table. I had to enclose the patio because it collected snow in winter, but it doesn't affect the outdoor living feel of the room.

I called this house Pacific Living after the living room furniture by Sailfindragon, which I thought was particularly suited to this house. I grew up on a steady diet of classic black & white movies from the 40s and 50s, and this house reminded me of the houses featured in those movies. And the style, color and texture of Sailfin's Pacific Living set reminded me of the sleek modern furniture that decorated those houses.

I never get tired of this house. I've played it with three different Sim families with completely different stories, and enjoyed it every time. I hope you enjoy it too.
