I'd had HugeLunatic's converted mid century fireplace in my downloads for a while before I found the perfect mid century home for it. In fact, I found two perfect homes for it! But you'll have to wait to see the other one when we get to 1960.

Moving the fireplace out into the room gives the interior of this 1951 home a much more modern feel, and it serves as a stunning divider between the living and dining areas. It takes just a little work to play around it - not much at all - but it's totally worth it.

To compliment the height of the fireplace I used ceiling-high archways to the kitchen and hall, and brought warmth to all that beautiful stone with parquet wood floors. Surprisingly, it doesn't make the space feel at all cramped. In fact it feels rather cozy. My Sims enjoyed snuggling in with a good book on cold snowy nights.

It's a 3BD/2BA home with a large eat-in kitchen, a living and dining area, and a covered carport with storage (just add a door). The only major thing I did away with was the fireplace wall that ran into the back yard, cutting it in half. That might have worked on another lot, but I didn't think it worked here.

I started with an island in the kitchen, but thought it took up too much room. I then tried a table and chairs, which looked nice. But I settled on the two-seater booth because I liked the way my Sims looked sharing meals there. Any of those eat-in styles would be appropriate to the 50s, and you're welcome to change it up any way you like.

I made the bedrooms a little larger than the plan called for so the master bedroom would accommodate a desk, and so kids would have room to play, grow, and do homework in their rooms. I also added a large master bath, which a Sim family would need to avoid stomping their feet and waving their hands in the air every time two or more had to go at the same time.

The decor is probably more 60s than 50s, but I was trying to keep the cc to a minimum while still giving it a retro feel. And I named it for the talented woman who's beautiful fireplace inspired me. Thank you HugeLunatic!
