1951 Mid Century Modern: The Clerestory

This 2BD/1BA home was a daring design for 1951, but would pave the way for popular home designs of the '60s that incorporated high ceilings with clerestory and a wall of windows that filled the home with light, created better air flow (no airconditioning in the 50s!) and invited the outdoors in. I love it! And I love its small size.

Keeping it small, I shortened the depth of the house by one tile, got rid of the basement stairs and the optional utility room, and borrowed space from the kitchen to enlarge the bath. The kitchen is small, but it works, and it improves overall traffic flow. I also got rid of the closets near the entrance to add more space to the second bedroom, which desperately needed it.

There's a covered carport with a long room for storage (just need to add a door). It doesn't have a pool, but there's room for one. At one time when I played this house with a full family of Sims I added a pool, and the view from the living and dining room was beautiful.

Yep; I played this small lot with a family of three Sims who loved to entertain and always had a house full of guests. It's an easy lot to play and has a pleasant laid-back feel to it. It would make a perfect home for a hip young couple or a single Sim. Or you could play it like I did with a family of three.
