‘Hello?’
‘Hey! Shanti! It’s Brandon, babe!’ there was really loud music playing in the background and Brandon had to scream to make himself heard.
‘The name is Shadee!’ the girl pouted, but just couldn’t make her tone too harsh.
‘Yeah, that’s what I said!’ he screamed back charmingly
‘Listen, sorry I couldn’t come earlier. I got a last minute invitation to an awesome party, I just couldn’t miss it!’
‘Oh…ok… Maybe we can reschedule?’
There was a small pause where Shadee could only hear the loud music, then something that sounded like muffled whispering.
‘Well, to be honest, that’s not an alternative for me! My schedule is full for the rest of the week. Could you please, please do the project alone this time? I’ll make it up to you!’
Shadee could already imagine Brandon’s puppy dog eyes.
‘Ok, ok but-’
‘Thanks! Gotta go now, Shaniqua!’
‘It’s –’ the girl began angrily but Brandon had already hung up ‘Shadee’ she sighed and closed her own phone. So much for Brandon falling madly in love with her!
She walked over to her door and opened it, almost colliding with her grandmother.
‘Oh, I just wanted to come down to you and tell you he isn’t coming.’ Shadee muttered waving her cell phone ‘He just called me.’
‘Really?’ grandma Gypsy scratched her chin ‘Then who’s that handsome boy waiting to talk to you outside the house?’ she grinned, watching her granddaughter’s reaction.
‘Are you kidding me?!?’ she smiled widely, a sudden wave of affection for Brandon overwhelming her ‘So he pulled a prank, the little…’
Her last words faded in loud thuds as she ran down the staircase and opened the front door with her most dazzling smile. But exactly after she opened the door, the smile got wiped from her face.
‘Oh, it’s you.’ She raised an eyebrow, but her tone clearly showed how disappointed she was ‘Came here to yell a little more at me?’
Sebastien looked at her with his sad, green eyes and opened his mouth to say something, but Shadee interrupted him brutally.
‘Yeah, yeah! I know your rant by heart! I am a stupid, spoiled brat that knows nothing about real life, that lives a perfect life of luxury she doesn’t know to appreciate…bla bla bla!’ she could feel herself getting angrier by the minute, all the frustration was coming out in quick waves ‘Well, you know what? My life is not like that! I may live in this huge house, have all the things I want and enough money to wipe my behind with them, but I’m not one of the spoiled kids you hate so much! I have all these, but they don’t make me happy! Just look around! Do you think seeing this every day makes me happy?!?’
Shadee waved briskly towards the small graveyard in her garden, the murky gravestones looming out of the ground. She was panting, breathing deep and knew she had lost her temper a little too quick. But the fact that this rude boy had come all the way to her house to fork more accusations down her throat simply drove her insane.
‘I – I just wanted to say I’m sorry.’ Sebastien said quietly, his eyes staring sadly into Shadee’s ‘I realised I had been a total jerk and I felt really bad... That’s all.’
He didn’t wait for Shadee to answer, it seemed that apologizing wasn’t a thing he did every day. Hands in pockets, Sebastien turned on his heel and walked back down the path. The girl just stood there, rotted on the spot. Only her eyes followed Sebastien’s dark figure walk away, disappearing behind a tree. She hadn’t expected that; his words swirled inside her head mixing with the image of his sad, green eyes. She sighed, a sigh of relief and anger, then opened the front door and slid back inside.
Getting back to her room, Shadee turned off all the lights and just crawled in of the corners, holding her knees tightly uselessly trying to restrain her tears and oblivious to the figure leaning against a tree in the yard, still lingering about the house.
Now, I'll just be waiting to see what you guys think! :smash:
