Simple Laundry

This set adds laundry to your game. Wash clothes in a washing machine or in sink, dry them in a dryer or on clothesline, drop clothing piles on the floor, store dirty laundry in hampers, build commercial laundromat, and get motive bonuses for doing laundry!

We made this with Platasp and Tvickiesims who converted the objects, did mesh and texture editing, and much more. I did the logic, interactions, converted animations and sounds. We used models from the Sims 4 by EA, KKB, MAX20, fanseelamb, door animation by Becks, shadows file by LordCrumps, motive decay idea from the LazyDuchess' mod. All this sprinkled with helpful input from Epi and Gummilutt. Thank you all!

What to Download
The lazy way is to get the EVERYTHING folder. If you want to pick and choose, then you absolutely need the LaundryCore_DO_NOT_REMOVE package. Objects and addon mods are optional. Sims4ShadowFile is needed for objects' shadows! Also, KKB_JOMODryer is repositoried to its sister-washer.

How Laundry Works

Accumulating
Hamper placed on a lot gets filled over time, depending on household size and average sloppiness of family members. At some point, starts to smell bad encouraging sims to do laundry. For 1 neat sim it takes about 8 days for the hamper to become disgusting, and for a family of 6 sloppy sims - about 2 days. Of course, you can wash basket's contents before it gets to that state.

With the 'Change Outfit Leave Clothing Pile' addon, sims will sometimes drop clothing piles on the floor after changing their outfit, depending on their neatness and presence of hampers on the lot. This behavior is "activated" by placing any laundry object on lot (say, washer). Like many things in this mod, the details are configurable by BCONs (default settings: sloppy sims leave pile 30% of the time if there's no hamper and 20% if there is a hamper, neat sims never drop clothes on the floor, and normal sims drop them 10% of the time if there are no hampers only).

With the 'Laundry Pausing Clothing Stack' placed anywhere on lot you can pause clothes dropping behavior and have "dormant" hampers on that lot at the same time. It stops new laundry from accumulating and existing laundry from getting dirtier, as long as the stack is on the lot.

Washing
Wash Clothes interaction on washers is available even if there are no sources of dirty laundry around - your sim will pull a laundry bag out of their butt then. If there are full hampers or clothing piles, sim will gather them first. Sim puts laundry inside the machine, pushes some buttons and leaves it to do its job.

Washer works for about an hour and then beeps summoning the sim who started it to get laundry, much like a microwave. You can configure it not to require unloading and be more like a dishwasher, but sims will still get laundry to move it to dryer or clothesline if there are such objects on the lot. Expensive machines work faster.

Sink is another place to wash clothes, with the 'Sink Wash Clothes' addon. Even children can use it. It gains cleaning skill and takes more of your sim's time, depending on dirtiness of laundry batch.

With the 'Laundry Motive Decay Bonus' addon, household members' hygiene will decay slower for about 3 days after washing laundry (also tunable).

Drying
You don't have to dry clothes, unless you place drying equipment on lot, this way it's optional per lot. There's no penalty for not drying laundry, but there is a bonus for doing it, with the 'Laundry Motive Decay Bonus' addon: household members' comfort motive will decay slower for about 3 days.

Dryer works much like the washer: sims gather wet laundry, load it, set dry cycle and walk away. When it's done, in about 40 sim-minutes (or less for costlier machines), the starter sim is summoned to put away the dry laundry, which is also a setting you can turn off via BCON.

Clothesline and drying rack are alternatives to dryer. Sims hang wet clothes on them gaining a little bit of cleaning skill, and can put them away a few hours later. Laundry takes longer to dry and may become wet again outside in the rain. But smells good. New: outside, clothes dry faster in summer and longer in winter, and there's a BCON setting for them to stay wet in winter unless you move them inside.

Storing
Clothing piles your sims may have left on the floor (i.e. when they failed to bring laundry from one point to another) can be stored in a hamper. If there are no hampers, sims may put dirty clothes into a washer to wash later. Dirty or wet clothes left in a washer or dryer will spoil over time and become stinky.

Autonomy
Sims will autonomously do laundry, depending on their personality. Neat sims may tidy anything that is barely unclean: put away clothing piles, wash barely dirty clothes from nearly empty hampers. Sloppy sims will ignore any mess until it smells like a dumpster, and then some. Average sims may sometimes put away dirty piles and wash clothes from full laundry baskets.

In families that have maids, butlers or helpers, autonomy is suppressed. NPCs and servants will act like neat sims, even more so. Expect laundry to be done every day and everything be put away as soon as they have a spare minute.

Commercial Use
You can build a functioning laundromat. Washers and dryers work for pay on community lots and attract visitors to use them. Default setting is $10 per use. In owned business, you won't have to "sell" doing laundry to customers, they will do it on their own and gain customer loyalty. Home businesses won't do, though, it's tied to the community lot type.

Maintainance
Washers, dryers and clotheslines may break from use. Expensive machines are sturdier and easier to fix than cheaper ones. With Free Time, washers and dryers may be tinkered with and boost hobby enthusiasm. Repairing and tinkering works like with any other appliance. Oh, broken washer creates puddles, so be careful not to get electrocuted.

Washer and dryer use power and water. May not work when there's an outage and add to bills, with certain mods installed.

What if you don't want laundry to pile up, but still keep washer and dryer on your lot as decorations?
So, on livable lots, laundry only piles up when you place a hamper OR if you have the 'Change Outfit Leave Clothing Pile' mod installed. Washers and dryers are as good as decorations, meaning they don't do anything and don't require your sims to use them at all.

On community lots, washers and dryers will still attract sims to use them, sadly for you. If you wanted deco washers on a comm lot, you could edit their interactions to disable them.

Uninstallation
- Before you remove the 'Laundry Motive Decay Bonus' addon, play until motive benefits have faded (over 3 sim days after doing laundry for any given family), otherwise your sims' hygiene and comfort decay will stay slowed down
- If you decide to remove the laundry stuff completely, just keep the LaundryMotiveDecayBonus file for a while, it'll restore your sims' normal motive decay over time without adding anything new
- If you already removed the addon and noticed sims with slowed down decay, use this file to fix them

What is What in the Files

• lamare_LaundryCore_DO_NOT_REMOVE - essential file, includes new animations, sounds and code shared by the objects in this set and also an accessory laundry bag
• Objects' file names start with prefixes telling you what they are: washer, dryer, clothesline, hamper, pile
• Addon files are little optional mods, you may pick and choose the ones you like
• LC_Sims4ShadowFile is for the machines to have shadows (remove it if you already have this file from other sets)
• Recolors - a folder with additional recolors for some of the objects

Known Issues
- The ChangeOutfitLeaveClothingPile addon causes sims to reset on lot load after installing the mod. It should be fine after that. You may see it happening again when you un-install that particular file
- If you remove the 'Laundry Motive Decay Bonus' addon while sims still have laundry benefits, your sims' hygiene and comfort decay will stay slowed down. Use this file to fix each affected sim, if it already happened. To prevent it from happening, wait for laundry bonuses to fade before removing the addon

Conflicts
Some files contain overrides that may conflict with other mods containing the same resources

• SinkWashClothes addon may conflict with mods that add pie menu options to sink, modify its autonomy or who may use it. In that case, try the alternative file - SinkWashClothes(NoPieMenu) - there will be no pie menu option on the sink itself, but sims will still be able to wash clothes in sinks by clicking on a pile of clothes or a hamper
• ChangeOutfitLeaveClothingPile addon may conflict with mods touching global change outfit
• LaundryCore may conflict with mods that add new sink globals with the same numbers (unlikely). If you found a conflict, you'll have to remove one of the mods
• If you have MaryLou's Counter-Friendly_Counters, the cutouts for hampers under counters will look weird
