This is a kit for dyeing objects in buy and build modes.
It's conceptually similar to The Sims 3 Create a Style, but more limited.

The kit pieces can be found in buy/build mode in the general/miscellaneous section.
You can also download a collection containing the kit pieces.

The kit pieces can be placed on roads, on water, and in air.
They're hidden in live mode.
This is a mod that fixes some issues with dyed objects.
With this mod, if a dyed object disappears and then appears again (for example in a dorm room or in an apartment), its dye will not disappear.
This mod will be probably be extended to address other issues too. However, I'm afraid not all issues can be fixed.

Update (30 Jan 2026): Removed the uncategorized version. Although uncategorized objects appear in collections, you cannot buy them, which I didn't realize.
Important notes
Do not include this kit with shared lots. The kit may change in the future.
Follow these steps before sharing a lot to prevent the kit from being included:
See the known issues section for further explanations.
Follow these steps before sharing a lot to prevent the kit from being included:
- Enter the lot you want to share.
- Remove all the kit pieces.
- Save the lot.
- Leave the lot.
- Enter the lot again.
- Save the lot again.
See the known issues section for further explanations.
If you want to share a dorm, an apartment lot, or a hotel with dyed objects, include a link to this mod and ask to download the Object Dye Fixes mod.
Features and limitations- The dyeing process doesn't have a separate dialog or interface.
The kit consists of pieces (being ordinary objects) which you need to move over objects you want to change. - If you can pick something up with the hand tool in buy/build mode, even with the moveobjects cheat, then most probably you can dye it.
You can also dye modular stairs and deck columns.
You cannot dye walls, floors, roofs, fences, greenhouses, or awnings. - You can dye entire objects only.
This means that you cannot select a specific part of an object to dye.
In some rare cases, a part of an object remains undyed, like the fountain water. - You can only use solid colors. Patterns aren't available.
- The dye is separate from recolors. It's applied on an object's texture.
Changing the recolor of an object doesn't reset the dye. The dye is applied on the new texture instead. - The dye uses subtractive color mixing.
For example, it's not possible to turn an originally red object bright green, or make an object lighter.
Therefore, white objects give the most flexibility in dyeing. - The dye will stay on objects if you save the game.
Even if you remove the kit, the dye will remain.
If you share a lot containing a dyed object with someone who doesn't have the kit, the dye will still be visible.
Resetting an object usually doesn't reset its dye. - The kit can dye cc (custom content) objects.
- There are some visual problems you should take into consideration while dyeing objects.
See the known issues section.
Contents of the kit
The kit consists of 4 pieces:
- Dye Ring: gradually dyes or removes dye from an object.
- Dye Ring Adjuster: changes the color and intensity of the Dye Ring.
- Eyedropper Ring: picks the dye from an object or applies its own dye to an object.
- Undo/Redo Ring: undoes or redoes dyeing actions for an object. It's similar to the undo and redo buttons in buy and build modes.
The kit pieces can be found in buy/build mode in the general/miscellaneous section.
You can also download a collection containing the kit pieces.
Place the collection file in the Collections folder, not in the Downloads folder.
Using the kit: Dye Ring and Dye Ring Adjuster
First, buy the Dye Ring Adjuster (the small one with a palette and bars) and place it on the ground.
Then buy the Dye Ring (the big one with dye tubes).
To change the dye color of the Dye Ring:
To change the dye intensity of the Dye Ring:
To adjust the dye of an object:
Then buy the Dye Ring (the big one with dye tubes).
To change the dye color of the Dye Ring:
- Pick the Dye Ring up.
- Move its center over the palette part of the Dye Ring Adjuster. Do not put the ring down.
- Press the keys typically used to rotate objects (usually < and >) to cycle through possible colors: cyan, magenta, yellow, red, green, blue, and black.
The Dye Ring will change its color.
To change the dye intensity of the Dye Ring:
- Pick the Dye Ring up.
- Move its center over the intensity bars part of the Dye Ring Adjuster. Do not put the ring down.
- Press the key typically used to rotate objects counterclockwise (usually <) to reduce the color intensity.
After that, the Dye Ring will become lighter and display minus signs for a moment. - Press the key typically used to rotate objects clockwise (usually >) to increase the color intensity.
After that, the Dye Ring will become more saturated and display minus signs for a moment.
To adjust the dye of an object:
- Pick the Dye Ring up.
- Move its center over the object. Do not put the ring down.
- Press the key typically used to rotate objects clockwise (usually >) to dye the object gradually.
After that, the ring will display plus signs for a moment. - Press the key typically used to rotate objects counterclockwise (usually <) to remove the dye of the object gradually.
After that, the ring will display minus signs for a moment.
If you aren't familiar with dyeing objects, start by choosing a white one to make the process easier to understand.
Using the kit: Eyedropper Ring
Buy the Eyedropper Ring (the big one with eyedroppers).
To pick the dye of an object:
You can adjust the dye of the Eyedropper Ring with the Dye Ring.
To pick the dye of an object:
- Pick the Eyedropper Ring up.
- Move its center over the object. Do not put the ring down.
- Press the key typically used to rotate objects counterclockwise (usually <) to pick the dye color of the object.
After that, the ring will change its color to the picked dye and display inward arrows for a moment.
If there's more than one object on the same tile, press the key repeatedly until you pick the desired dye.
To replace the dye of an object with the Eyedropper Ring's dye:- Pick the Eyedropper Ring up.

Using the kit: Undo/Redo Ring
Buy the Undo/Redo Ring (the big one with clocks).
To undo or redo actions made by other rings on an object:
To undo or redo actions made by other rings on an object:
- Pick the Undo/Redo Ring up.
- Move its center over the object. Do not put the ring down.
- Press the key typically used to rotate objects counterclockwise (usually <) to undo a dyeing action made on an object.
After that, the ring will display counterclockwise arrows for a moment if there was any action to undo. - Press the key typically used to rotate objects clockwise (usually >) to redo an undone dyeing action made on an object.
After that, the ring will display clockwise arrows for a moment if there was any action to redo.
Entering live mode or leaving the lot and entering it again causes the history of dyeing actions to be forgotten. The forgotten actions can't be undone or redone.
This is similar to the behavior of the undo and redo buttons in buy and build modes.
This is similar to the behavior of the undo and redo buttons in buy and build modes.
For each object, you can only undo 256 dyeing actions in a row. Older actions are forgotten.
Using the kit: additional info
The kit pieces can be placed on roads, on water, and in air.
They're hidden in live mode.
If you move a ring over a tile with multiple objects (for example, a counter with a microwave and a lamp above it) and press an action key, the ring will affect them all.
You can trigger ring actions by rotating it with the mouse. However, I advise against doing this, as it gives no control over the process.
Object dye fixes modThis is a mod that fixes some issues with dyed objects.
With this mod, if a dyed object disappears and then appears again (for example in a dorm room or in an apartment), its dye will not disappear.
This mod will be probably be extended to address other issues too. However, I'm afraid not all issues can be fixed.
Known issues
Dye issues:
- In most cases, the entire object is dyed, including parts that you might not want to dye, such as a TV screen, the inside of a fridge, clothing in a wardrobe.
- Snow on an object is also dyed.
- Dyeing an object with partially transparent parts (such as certain curtains or any objects with indoor shadows) may cause visual glitches.
- Dyed objects appear undyed in the neighborhood view and on surrounding lots in the lot view.
- Rugs only reveal their dye if you use Rugs Off Grid by HugeLunatic.
- In live mode, hovering over an interactive dyed object reveals its original, undyed texture.
- In business build tools mode (pricing mode), dyed objects don't get dark or yellow, unlike undyed objects. For this reason, it is not possible to see which dyed objects are for sale without hovering over them.
- If you copy a dyed object in buy or build mode (using the shift key or the eyedropper tool), the new object isn't dyed.
You need to apply the dye manually, preferably using the Eyedroper Ring. - If you move a dyed fireplace, it loses its dye, as well as the chimney.
- Some objects can override your dye, such as dance floor tiles or garden flowers (including water ones).
- Dyeing an object that emits light doesn't affect the color of the light it emits.
This may or may not be desirable, depending on the object. - If a Sim takes an item from a dyed object (for example, a noisemaker from a noisemaker box), the item that is taken isn't dyed.
This may or may not be desirable, depending on the object.
Kit issues:
- Kit pieces can affect invisible objects, such as tile markers that indicate where an interaction will take place.
This can be confusing when a kit piece seems to affect an empty tile. However, this shouldn't have any negative impact on invisible objects. - Kit pieces don't affect objects for sale on a business lot.
- Certain large objects, such as cars or large sculptures, can only be affected by moving a kit piece over the correct tiles.
For a car, it's usually a tile at the back.
For a large sculpture, it's usually a middle tile. - Using a kit piece on an object creates an invisible dye history holder, one for each affected object. These holders make it possible to undo/redo actions made by kit pieces.
Even if you remove all the kit pieces from a lot, the history holders won't be removed. They're only removed if you enter live mode (to be consistent with the game's undo/redo logic) or if you save the game, leave the lot, and enter it again.
Conflicts
The dye kit should not conflict with anything.
The Object Dye Fixes mod may cause conflicts, but I'm not aware of any.
