Brie Newman's POV Continues...
‘Oooh! Somebody had a nose job!’
The only person left in Dad’s office during lunch hour was a girl my age.
She peered closer into my battered face.
‘You also had some reconstruction done to your jaw line and chin.’
She continued to study me like she was a doctor, instead of a bleached blonde receptionist.
‘I know it doesn’t look like it now, but your doctor did a great job.’
‘Thanks, er...Miss..’
‘Just call me, Cami.’
Oh boy!
‘Cami, is Mr. Newman in? I’m his daughter, Brie.’
Cami looked startled.
‘Daughter? Dexy...er I mean Mr. Newman never mentioned a daughter.’
That didn’t surprise me in the least.
‘Will you please tell him I’m here. It’s really important.’
‘Do you have an appointment?’
I really wished Dad’s normal secretary was here.
Marla not only knew who I was, but was often stuck entertaining me during visitations with Dad.
It was just my luck to arrive on a Saturday. Marla went home at noon on weekends.
‘I took a cab to get here from the hospital. I need money from my father to pay the cab driver.’
Cami tilted her head to one side and regarded me as if I were suddenly speaking a foreign language instead of plain Simlish.
‘Just buzz him and tell him that his daughter Brie is here and that it’s important.’
Finally, I saw a light click behind her eyes.
‘Mr. Newman told me that he was not to be disturbed for any reason. He’s in a very important meeting.’
Oh no!
I knew that cab driver would be up here any moment.
I wished Marla were here. She’d probably pay the driver out of her own pocket and let Dad pay her back later.
‘Please, my father's not going to want that cabby coming up here, demanding to be paid.
Do you have any money I could borrow until Dad comes out of his meeting? He’ll pay you right back.’
At least I hoped he would anyway.
Cami licked her lips nervously.
‘I only have my check book and a credit card.’
No good!
Cami lowered her voice. She looked a bit frightened.
‘I think since it is a bit of an emergency, your father might not mind...um..he really isn’t in a meeting.’
‘Then where is he?’
‘Um...he’s in his inner office. When he goes in there..he doesn’t like to be disturbed.’
Inner office?!
