Brie Newman's POV Continues...

It's been years since I've been permitted back in Dad's office.
Cautiously, I tapped on the door.
'Dad?'
When I got no answer, I pushed the door open and peeped inside.
The office was empty.
I looked at the door, I'd always assumed was a storage closet.
Cami told me,that Marla told her, that Dad liked to meditate in there.
I certainly hoped that's what Marla said he did in there!
I was more than relieved when I heard my father talking to someone.
It was a conversational tone, like he was on the phone, certainly not like he was being romantic with anyone.
I went over to the so called inner office door, it wasn't shut all the way, so I pushed it open.
'I did the math and.....'

'Dad?'
My father stopped mid sentence and whirled around.
I was frightened by how angry he looked.
'How dare you!' he began, until he caught sight of my face.

His fury swiftly became fear.
He even backed away a few paces.
'Dad.' I repeated again. 'It s me Brie.'
While I tried to reassure him, I was also looking around.
Pictures of my parents were plastered on almost every square inch of wall space.
There were also lots of pictures of Mom by herself.
I couldn't believe how young and innocent my mother once looked.
'Brie?' Dad looked confused.
I now stepped into the room to take a closer look.
I knew my folks would sleep together in between relationships, but I never felt they had any sort of true love for each other.

My gawking around his inner office, snapped my father out of his daze.
He went livid again.
'What the hell are you doing in here!' he roared.
I screamed when he lunged forward and grabbed me by the arm.
Roughly, he gave me a shake.
His fingers felt like metal pinchers clawing my flesh.
'Ouch! Dad, your hurting me!'
I'm going to do much more than that!' he shook me as he spoke.
'How the bloody hell did you get in here?'
Frightened out of my mind, by the insane agitation I saw in his eyes, I quickly tried to explain.
'Dad, please, I had no where else to go!' I attempted to plead my case. 'Mom threw me out of the house, she left me at the hospital...'
To my horror, he raised his fist as if he were about to punch me in the face.
In a split seconds time, I feared he was going to smash away all the dreams I ever had of being pretty.......
