Brie Newman's POV Continues....
Terrified, I cringed to dodge my father’s blow.
I knew that he could easily crush all the work Dr. Birnbaum had done on my face.
I’d seen him rough handle Mom and Sasha, but before now, he never laid a hand on my brother or me.
He had much preferred ignoring us.
Then just as suddenly, he released his grip on me and spun around again.
It was like one of the pictures on the bar had called out to him.
In my extremely tense state, I could have sworn that I also heard a female voice call out his name.
‘I wasn’t going to hit her, Mary!’ Dad exclaimed. ‘Yes, I can see she just had surgery.’
On top of everything else in my whole miserable existence, I realised that my father was stark raving insane.
I started crying and once again tried to explain what I was doing in this weird shrine room of his.
I would have much rather ran out of the room and have never looked back.
I just didn’t have any one else who would take me in.
‘Please Daddy,’ I sobbed. ‘I didn’t have any where else to go.’
Dad turned and glared down on me.
There was such contempt on his face.
I’ve seen that disgusted look from him many a time.
I’d heard bits of gossip from my Mom and our servants that Dad had been bitterly disappointed that I wasn’t pretty.
It seemed like he was never going to say anything. He just kept glowering down on me, like I was the lowest form of scum.
He finally snapped.
‘Oh, quit your sniveling, Brie. You always make such mountains out of molehills.’
His whole attitude was like
I was the unstable one.
Dad once again seized hold of my arm and dragged me back into his main office.
He shoved me on the couch in front of his desk.
We could both hear the cabby demanding his money from the reception area.
‘I’ll pay the damn cab driver.’ Dad’s tone was so cold. ‘Then you and I are going to have a talk.’
