This one's a bit of a throwback, as I've created something that resembles my very first, and most downloaded upload, The Elysium.

Inspired by contemporay Californian beach houses, this ultra-modern villa combines minimalist architecture with luxurious coastal living. With open-plan floors, panoramic glazing and spacious outdoor entertaining areas (with a relaxing thermal spa) - all overlooking the ocean.

I rarely design modern houses because I've never felt I could compete with the incredible contemporary LA-inspired builds I've admired and downloaded from this site. With modern architecture, there are only so many elements you can experiment with: white walls, floor-to-ceiling windows and flat roofs, so it's surprisingly easy to create something that feels bland. This is also the first beach house I've ever built, and I think what really brought it to life was being able to raise the house on a deck overlooking the beach. To give the exterior more depth and character, I combined two different wall finishes and used layered flat roofs to break up the transition between the ground and first floors.

Originally, I wanted to include a swimming pool on the beachfront deck, but unfortunately the game doesn't allow it. Instead, I incorporated the Ancient Soakilicious Spring into the patio to create the feel of a luxurious spa retreat. I've also started to realise that great landscaping can completely transform a property. Although the planting is fairly simple, designing the front garden was the moment everything finally came together and the house felt complete.

I've never been a huge fan of holiday homes because I've always preferred sending my Sims to hotels where they can interact with the locals. That said, I found this lot works brilliantly for Romantic aspiration Sims. Whether they're single or married, its secluded location makes it the perfect setting for a discreet getaway... or a rather less discreet affair.

Use it however you like; as a luxury family holiday home, an exclusive party house, or even convert it into a boutique beachfront hotel. Let me know your thoughts.
