Eaxis More Logical Lights II - The bringing it home edition
Hey everyone!
In this set, I have fixed all the lightings not included in the last set. I have pretty much fixed every EP/SP to finish out the project. The only fixes not included are the Mansion and Gardens Fixes, which, though imperfect, I can't seem to get the fix to work without it breaking the M&G lights completely. The only thing I noted was wrong about the M&G light was the colour and the lighting of the Chandelier. I would recommend downloading this fix for the chandelier by spiegelsplitter
Apartment Life
Apartment life had some decent lights. The brightness was nicely done and really well. The only thing out of place was the colour. The Socialite lamps looked cheap with a soft white glow, The bohemian lamp didn't look good with soft white and the Fantasy lights, were just plain "WTF". More opinion based was the Gearhead lamps as I felt they would look really pretty with fire rather than fake light.
What I changed:
- Made the Sociallite lights and bohemian light a soft amber colour.
- Made the Evil Witch lights red to reflect the fantasy nature of the light. This affects all three lights (wall ceiling and floor. Floor is shown)
- Made the Good Witch lights a soft pink, which really brings out the cutesy and positive energy of the lamps along with the fantasy element of the lights. This affects all three lights (wall ceiling and floor. Floor is shown)
- Made the Gearhead lamps a little darker and made them flame to reflect their mesh, which is an artistic form of the sun. They look super amazing as outdoor lights now.
Freetime
Freetime's baby lamp was cute but the soft white killed it.
What I changed:
- Made the Nursery light a soft amber, perfect for baby's room now.
Nightlife
Nightlife was interesting. The NLO files are seperated, so you can optionally choose what fixes you want. In this set I just cleaned up some of the fugly lights and odd lightings.
What I changed
- Date candles are actual flame now, no more weird greenish tint.
- Brasserie table lamp had one of the recolours set nicely at flame, but the others at weird colours. I set all of them to flame.
- Rave light has a nicely styled mesh for modern homes, but useless outside of a rave setting. I set all of the recolours to soft amber and toned the brightness a little bit.
- Both Diner signs had horrible colourings for non neon lights. I set all recolours to soft white so they're more usable around.
Special instruction
In order to get the fixes for these to work, you will need the fixed Lighting.txt file in there with it. Any of the NLO files are optional though.
University
University's lighting files were messed up from the beginning. For one, The Lighting.txt was not properly done, causing both windows and doors in University to not work with lighting. When I did fix them I noted horrible inconsistencies with the lights.
What I changed
- Fixed the Lighting.txt file to include University's NLO file, so now windows and door lightings will work.
- Changed the Groovy set lights to soft white and lowered the ceiling light's brightness.
- The Medieval set just had changes of consistency. toned down the brightness and made them use fire as they're candles.
Glamour Life Stuff
Glamour life had ok lighting tones btu the brightness was a problem
What I changed
- Made the ribbon light less bright
- Made the ceiling version of the Luxury light less bright to match it's table buddy
H&M Fashion Stuff
H&M's only other light was fine in colour and brightness. The H&M sign though was broken to all hell. Aside from not having a definition in the NLO file, the CRES file for it was missing the link to the LGHT resource for the light, causing it to be broken and not reflect light.
What I changed
- CRES resource fix to the H&M sign and inclusion in the NLO file.
Special instructions
The CRES fix can go in either the Downloads folder or the Overrides folder in your latest EP's install location. I suggest the latter, but either way has proven to work.
Kitchen & Bath Interior Design Stuff
The romantic light was fine, the Stylish wall light was not though. It was out of consistency with it's ceiling buddy.
What I changed
- Changed the Stylish wall light to soft white
Teen Style Stuff
Teen Style, like University, had issues with it's NLO file not being included in the Lighting.txt. I cleaned up the file and found more errors in the set.
what I changed
- NLO file now in Lighting.txt.
- Victorian lights set now made to match. Toned down the brightness on the ceiling light and made the table light a soft amber rather than flame.
- The actual candle in this set was made flame rather than soft amber.
- The Surfer light is no longer a search light. I toned the brightness down
Install Instructions
- Nab Plasticbox's Fixes for the BG lights (Namely the colours and intensities, as those are needed to make the lights here look as they do in my pictures)
- Place the NLO Files and the lighting.txt from each folder in this location:
{Install location, program files or otherwise}\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 {EP or SP }\TSData\Res\Lights
- The H&M CRES override can either be dropped into downloads folder (with no custom star) or your latest EP's overrides folder (best overrides, but either way has been tested to work). If you use the latter method you are gonna put it in this location:
{Install location, program files or otherwise}\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 {Latest EP}\TSData\Res\Overrides
Compatibility
Basically, I see no incompatibility with these fixes aside from Radiance Light System, in which case, you won't need these fixes anyway as RLS has it's own system for managing lighting in the game.
The only thing I would say would be incompatible with the H&M sign CRES fix would likely be a CEP fix or something that modifies the CRES resource of the light (I dunno what resources a CEP fix modifies, so I am saying it's incompatible to be safe). I do not know of any existant CEP fixes for it or if it even needs one. If you know of one, link me to it so I can crack it open and actually see for incompatibility.
Here's a small quoted piece on how to modify the NLO files for your tastes. For a refrence of colours and intensities, Use plasticbox's text files from the basegame fixes.
DIY: This is extremely simple: just open the .nlo file in a text editor and reassign the lights you want. The names are mostly self-explaining, as is the syntax; example from the Pets file: create Six(lightingFloorGardenPagoda_light) create Amber(lightingFloorGardenPagoda_light) means 1. make the light for that Asia-style outdoor lamp as defined in "Six" (a preset defined near the top of the Base Game file. I didn't mess with any of those), and 2. give it the colour "Amber". In case you're not sure which light is which, just temporarily change it to Green or something, then check which light becomes green, that's the one. Or look at the LGHT resources in SimPE to see the names. The names of the Maxis presets relate to the brightness of the lights. "Two" is very weak (I don't think I've seen that used anywhere), "Ten" is very strong (used only for outdoor lights). The colours are defined in colors.txt in the Base Game files; I made a modified version available in the other thread. Syntax for the colour definition is RGB on a 0..1 range (not 0–255). |
